Rescue Me ID: 14-07-16-00522Slider Turtles

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Young Adult

2 Yellow eared slider turtles that I rescued about 1.5 years ago. Previous owner was going to put in ditch in the woods, she was tired of caring for them. I told my Vet about what she was going to do and told me they would not survive. So I have Freddie and Barnie they are 2.5 years old. I am disable and can no longer care for them, as I have in the past. They are so sweet and require a loving home that will keep their 120 gallon aquarium cleaned to keep them in continued great health. The photo is about 1 year old they are a little bigger now. Please find it in your heart to help and love these two precious babies. Thank you

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-09-00576automatic (female)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Adult

Female uromastyx. I rescued Fluffy from a pet store several years ago that had no idea how to care for her. I never intended to keep her but that was 6 years ago. I have 2 large dogs now and she never gets out of her cage or gets handled anymore. I would love her to go to someone with knowledge about them, and someone who can enjoy her. She is unique. She will eat out of your hand and sit on your shoulder..

Animal ID: 14-02-19-00471Red Eared Slider

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Adult

Two red eared slider aquatic turtles are available for adoption through Mercy Fund. One of them is a male, and the other is a female. They will need at least a thirty gallon tank to have proper space for exercise. They also need a basking area with a heat lamp to keep them comfortable and prevent shell rot. A tank fully equipped with a heater and filter is highly recommended. They are very calm, and can provide years of companionship and entertainment to a family looking for a couple of small, quirky companions to their home. They like interaction, such as sitting in your lap or crawling around your home (supervised). They'd also love to ... (Read More)share your salad (but NO spinach). In three years of ownership, no little eggs came along, so owning a male/female pair is not as large of a responsibility as it would be with that threat. PIease Read Before Adopting Reptiles & More in North Carolina
Reptiles & More can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Reptiles are interesting animals. Many types of reptiles and amphibians are kept as exotic pets. Snakes, turtles, iguanas, and frogs are popular examples. Keeping a reptile as a pet is a tremendous responsibility. Many reptile owners discover that owning a reptile is not as rewarding as they had hoped. Reptiles do not bond with people the way mammals can, and are sometimes neglected for that reason. Also, many people purchase young, small reptiles without being aware of or prepared for their eventual adult size. For example, Burmese Pythons are often bought as pets when they are about two feet long. However, many do not realize that Burmese Pythons are among the largest snakes in the world, with adults averaging 23 feet in length and weighing hundreds of pounds! There is now an established invasive population of Burmese Pythons in Florida due to pet owners releasing the snakes into the wild. Scientists believe these huge snakes will keep spreading out and will one day inhabit one third of the United States! Some owners are not prepared for the long lifespan of a pet reptile. Some species of turtles are known for their extreme longevity. Iguanas can grow to be six feet long and then live for 20 years. Sadly, many captive reptiles suffer from dehydration and kidney problems, poor nutrition, and all other manner of neglect. A person who is truly ready to commit to a reptile pet can alleviate some suffering by adopting an animal rather than purchasing new.
