Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00315Iguana (male)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Adult

My name is Izzy and I am about 6 years old. I am male and have been at the rescue for quite a long time now. I was really mean when I got here and I've calmed down quite a bit, but I still have my moods. I am very special to mom and dad and they aren't even sure they want to adopt me out. The problem is that Shamus hates me and has tried to attack me more than once. Even Wilma picks on me at times. I am very good with the baby iguanas, mostly because they don't bully me. I'm a great eater but I have a deformity inside my mouth that requires mom to clean the old food out once in a while. I love the freedom of an open cage but I usually only ... (Read More)leave when it's time to sleep. Then I like to find a nice comfy spot outside the cage. The person who adopts me would have to be really special. As much as mom and dad love me, I would probably flourish in a home with no other iguanas. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00314Iguana (female)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Adult

My name is Leon and I am about 12 years old. Sorry my face is kind of dirty in this picture but I do love my food. There was some debate on whether I was female or male. I look very male in the head and when I'm mad I look like I have jowls. The real confusing part is I have only 1 femoral pore on 1 leg and it's pretty big. Right now, my belly is pretty big and kind of lumpy so mom thinks I might be gravid. I guess if I lay eggs, they'll know for sure I'm a girl! I was in a pretty small cage before I got to the rescue. I have a full tail but it was stunted in growth so it's not very long. When I first got here I was really really mean. These ... (Read More)days I am sweet as pie. It just took me a bit to learn to trust these new people and get used to the other iguanas. I have lots of friends here but I know I need to find my forever home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00312Iguana (male)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Adult

My name is Julio and I am brand new to the rescue. I am about 7 years old and all male. As you can see I am missing part of my lower jaw. When I was younger, I had to have an abscess and mouth rot removed. For the most part it doesn't slow me down but it does take me a little longer to try to eat. I have a beautiful long tail and tall spikes. I love to free roam and can spend hours looking out the window watching the world go by. All this change is stressful but I'm adjusting well. I have a bit of a fan club on Facebook and I've had some interest from people wanting to adopt me. Since I've spent the first years of my life with just one ... (Read More)person, I really want to make sure my next home is forever. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00309Iguana (female)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Young Adult

My name is Dixie, I'm a female and probably close to 4 years old or so. I'm still kind of small but getting bigger every day. I am definitely an alpha female. I am not very nice to smaller iguanas. I was adopted out once before to a nice couple. I loved it there but something happened between my parents and I had to come back to the rescue. I miss my daddy but I'm not sure he's coming back for me. I'm very social and love to free roam the house. I've got a huge appetite and as you can see, I like to pose for the camera. I'm looking for someone to take me forever this time.

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00305Iguana (female)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Young Adult

My name is Rico, however I'm really a girl. I'm a few years old but still kind of small. As you can see in the picture I'm laying in a nesting box. I've been acting gravid lately but I haven't laid any eggs yet. I like to disappear but mom usually finds me in the back bedroom. I've been at the rescue for several months. I'm still not very cuddly and I might run from you but for the most part I'm a good girl. I'm not mean at all, I'm just a little untrusting still. I really prefer to free roam and I'm pretty good about coming back to sit under my lights for a while each day. Other iguanas and dogs don't bother me at all. I sure would love to ... (Read More)find my forever home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00304Iguana

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Baby

My name is JJ and I am at least 2 years old, probably a little older. I've been at the rescue for just over a year now. I can still be skittish sometimes but for the most part I'm really nice. I'm much more calm than I used to be when I first got here. I am most likely a female and would make someone a really great pet. I'm pretty chill and get along with the other iguanas.

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00300Iguana (male)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Baby

My name is Little One, because I don't have a real name. I've been at the rescue for several months. I'm still a bit crazy but I'm getting better. I will try to run or tail whip when you first come near me but once I'm in your hands I calm down. I am all male and probably around 2 years old. I hang out with the other small iguanas here but I really don't like them much. I'd love to find a home where I can get lots of individual attention.

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-11-00151Iguana

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Baby

My name is Ghost. Well, not really but I dont have a name and my colors are so light, that's what they're calling me. I just got to the rescue yesterday. I'm probably around a year old. I was in a home for about 4 months and I was so scared. They fed me adult iguana pellets and didn't give me any lights. Now I'm in the rescue and I have a nice big cage and these great warm lights. I'm still really scared of people but I'll get better. Chances are good I'm a boy but I'm still too young to know for sure. I'd really love to find a forever home where I can settle down and bond with a loving owner.

PIease Read Before Adopting Reptiles & More in North Carolina
Reptiles & More can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Reptiles are interesting animals. Many types of reptiles and amphibians are kept as exotic pets. Snakes, turtles, iguanas, and frogs are popular examples. Keeping a reptile as a pet is a tremendous responsibility. Many reptile owners discover that owning a reptile is not as rewarding as they had hoped. Reptiles do not bond with people the way mammals can, and are sometimes neglected for that reason. Also, many people purchase young, small reptiles without being aware of or prepared for their eventual adult size. For example, Burmese Pythons are often bought as pets when they are about two feet long. However, many do not realize that Burmese Pythons are among the largest snakes in the world, with adults averaging 23 feet in length and weighing hundreds of pounds! There is now an established invasive population of Burmese Pythons in Florida due to pet owners releasing the snakes into the wild. Scientists believe these huge snakes will keep spreading out and will one day inhabit one third of the United States! Some owners are not prepared for the long lifespan of a pet reptile. Some species of turtles are known for their extreme longevity. Iguanas can grow to be six feet long and then live for 20 years. Sadly, many captive reptiles suffer from dehydration and kidney problems, poor nutrition, and all other manner of neglect. A person who is truly ready to commit to a reptile pet can alleviate some suffering by adopting an animal rather than purchasing new.
