Rescue Me ID: 14-02-28-00341Green Iguana (female)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Senior

We rescued this friendly, sweet, Green Ig approx 13 yrs ago off of the Green Ig rescue website. She has been a major part of our family for well over a decade. We love her dearly. She gets along with our Chihuahua fine, and she's fairly potty trained. The ONLY reason we have to rehome her is because we will be relocating to another country that recently made it illegal to bring in iguanas from America! :-(. We are devasted, but have no choice other than to find her the perfect home for the rest of her life. She is a senior, approx 13 yrs old. She is EXTREMELY healthy and has always gotten annual reptilian veterinary exams and blood ... (Read More)work. She's been spoiled and has never been in a cage. She would probably go insane if put inside a cage. She has free roam of the house and of course her favorite spots are the sunny areas. She's allowed to bask outdoors in the sun only under direct and constant supervision as once she climbed a tree and gave us all a scare! She gets lots of varied greens daily and a daily 20-30 min warm soak in her own bathtub. (I said she was spoiled!). The vet said that due to her good care, she would probably make it to 20 yrs. About 5 yrs ago she became egg bound and had to have an emergency hysterectomy. All went well :-). The only negative thing I can say about 'Dina' is that she probably wouldn't do well with any other iguanas or lizard type reptiles. She's used to being the only iguana and we always close the bedroom door when we leave because there is a full length mirror which she will attack! Also, I had a wind-up toy iguana that she tried to attack. Hence, I don't think she can cohabitate with another ig. Other than that, she's a gem! We are devastated about finding her a new family but we have to..... (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-27-00505Red Eared Slider (female)

Reptile/Amphibian    Age: Adult

We have a 4 year old red eared slider. I have taken very good care of her and love her. Today while I was cleaning her tank. I asked my 12 year old daughter to watch her. While watching her in my room. My nephew came in and picked her up and dropped her. now her arm is hurt. I lost my job a year ago and ran out of Unemployment. I can not afford to take her to a vet. If anyone out there can help her I would greatly appreciate it. I dont want her to suffer or be in pain. This happened an hour ago. I put her back in her tank and she just ate some shimp and meal worms but her arm looks jammed. I will keep a really close eye on her and I hope ... (Read More)there is someone who can help us.. PIease Read Before Adopting Reptiles & More in California
Reptiles & More can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. Reptiles are interesting animals. Many types of reptiles and amphibians are kept as exotic pets. Snakes, turtles, iguanas, and frogs are popular examples. Keeping a reptile as a pet is a tremendous responsibility. Many reptile owners discover that owning a reptile is not as rewarding as they had hoped. Reptiles do not bond with people the way mammals can, and are sometimes neglected for that reason. Also, many people purchase young, small reptiles without being aware of or prepared for their eventual adult size. For example, Burmese Pythons are often bought as pets when they are about two feet long. However, many do not realize that Burmese Pythons are among the largest snakes in the world, with adults averaging 23 feet in length and weighing hundreds of pounds! There is now an established invasive population of Burmese Pythons in Florida due to pet owners releasing the snakes into the wild. Scientists believe these huge snakes will keep spreading out and will one day inhabit one third of the United States! Some owners are not prepared for the long lifespan of a pet reptile. Some species of turtles are known for their extreme longevity. Iguanas can grow to be six feet long and then live for 20 years. Sadly, many captive reptiles suffer from dehydration and kidney problems, poor nutrition, and all other manner of neglect. A person who is truly ready to commit to a reptile pet can alleviate some suffering by adopting an animal rather than purchasing new.

lnteresting Reptiles & More Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
The word Reptile comes from the Latin Repere, which means to creep. In the Florida Everglades, there are over 20,000 non-native reptiles such as Burmese Pythons due to people releasing reptile pets into the wild.
